Life is a series of moments. Each moment unique yet similar. Each moment searing yet forgettable.
Art captures these moments and freezes them in time; immortalizing them. My past, my moments and therefore my art is set in India.
The central characters in most of my paintings are women. In India, women are the powerhouses of a household but subordinate in mainstream society. In a country that has had a woman prime minister on one hand and female infanticide on the other, the paradox of being a woman could not be more apparent than it is here. In Hinduism, women are represented by the goddess Shakti - every curve is sensual and delicate, but with an inner core of power. I try to capture their contradiction of beauty and majesty in my art.
