AW has been this way for years. Sometimes I think this is just a side-line hobby for the creator/staff that barely has time to keep up with the site. The last time I actually participated in something, years ago, it was the "calendar" event. Bought it but didn't receive the calendar until March or April.. A tad disappointed. But I think one of the main drawback of AW is their censor policy. Then again there is always those that will abuse anything.

I woke up this morning and went to deviant after joining yesterday... on one image alone I had 430 views, 11 favorites, and 7 comment just over night. That tells me people actually go to this site and participate. I've had images here for years that don't even come close to those numbers. The difference in the two sites is amazing

Did anyone criticize in their comments? I know years ago, people would criticize the likes of Thomas Kinkade, and those that did similar types of "painting of Light". A lot of people don't like criticism, even if it were constructive. Which most aren't

RQ, I've only been there about 18 hours now and on the one image I am speaking of is now up to 17 favs, 9 comments and 678 views and no criticizing comments... at least not yet. I'm still learning the site but so far, I am impressed with the layout of the site and the large volume of activity.

It's free Joanie, but they also have other paying options. There's no censorship there as far as artwork goes but you don't have to see that if you don't want to because they have options for you to choose on what you see. They have forums as well where people actually talk about things LOL! imagine that... So far, I like it and people are all over my work unlike here. I recommend people to try it out and if you don't like it, you can always leave.

I'm pleased that things are going well for you on deviant art. Sounds like you art is finally getting the recognition it deserves there. Also glad that you aren't leaving AW. I kind of feel the same way as you. Still hanging on to the hope that someone will notice the potential and neglect of this site and make it their mission to get it sorted lol. I've recently joined arthelper. It's nothing like here, but it's new and still evolving and it's interesting.

Doesn’t appear too easy to navigate. If you want to sell artwork you have to upgrade and pay. Something about having your work appear on a site called “deviant “ doesn’t appeal to me

Scott, years ago when AW cracked down on their nudity rules, a lot of people left. At that time AW went a little overboard, with post that looked obscene but weren't human or animals. Mostly flowers and plants that had a resemblance. I checked out Deviant Art at that time I found most of the "nudity" posts were basically porn and not "tastefully" nudes. I think AW was or is trying to protect the younger school age kids that they were trying to encourage back then, and apparently still are.

Yes Scott, if you want to sell you have to pay and it is rather difficult to get the hang of navigating around. It took me about three days or so to figure it out. The site certainly isn't for everyone, but the reason I enjoy it is because of the large number of daily uploads... also the activity and response to my work as well. The variety over there is enormous compared to here and I really like that.
