New Watermark Feature

ArtWanted.com is testing a new feature that has been requested by many of our members… Instant Image Watermarks!

This new system will add an optional watermark to the images that you upload to your ArtWanted.com portfolio automatically. This feature is available to both free and Premium members. We now offer 4 types of watermarks:

  • ArtWanted.com Logo (long version)
  • ArtWanted.com Logo 2 (square version)
  • Large Copyright Symbol
  • Custom Watermark Text (you type what you want on the image)

The semi-transparent watermarks are designed with both light & dark areas, so they will be seen with lighter or darker images.

We have made this feature live on the upload page and are now beta testing this with our users. You will see the options to select the watermark type and also the choose where to position the watermark on the image.

NOTE: The watermark will only appear on the larger image in your portfolio (not the thumbnails) and will NOT be posted on the high-resolution images that would be used for Premium print-on-demand program.

Watermarking your images provides an additional layer of protection to reduce image theft and it's also useful for self-promotion.

We want your feedback! Please try out the new watermark feature on your next image upload and let us know what you think. Tell us if you have any problem or have any suggestions on how it can be improved. Please post your comments by replying to this message.

UPDATE 4/14/2012: Good news! We have just added some additional features to the watermarks. You can now change the watermark image, reposition the watermark or completely remove the watermark from your images. NOTE: These new features are only available for NEW images that are uploaded and watermarked from 4/12/12 going forward.

Enjoy!

Have problem uploading images. Was able to upload one only. When I tried to upload a second one, the PC told me I needed "Optional Image Information" Don't understand it. Please explain.

ArtWanted.com Staff 01 Mar 2012

Bert - The only things required are the image title, gallery and image file. Were you missing one of these three? We will look into this on our end as well to make sure there is not a bug.

Problem resolved. Did not notice changes made. Many thanks

AW, I think this is a great new feature! I don't know yet if I'm going to use it, but I'm sure you make many people happy with it!

The design is good too, not so very disturbing as some other sites have them.

Thanks first of all for trying to implement better safeguards for the artists copyright protection. I did upload an image and the watermark is visible when the image is selected from the menu. However, this watermark is visible on the top portion which is not necessary when the zoom is enabled, and the second image below (alternate zoom) does not have the watermark and can be right click copied with no problem. So my suggestion would be to active the watermark on the alternate zoom image but not the top image since the zoom is already enabled and cannot be right clicked. Thanks for your reply - Lee

Thanks for the suggestion Lee. We will add the watermark feature to the zoom/alternate image soon.

Don't have time at the moment to upload a photo, but would like to know if we can edit it into photos already on the website??? Would be helpful to a large number of photos on the site, without having to delete them. Thanks,\MJ

AW Staff: We don't have a way add watermarks to existing images yet, but we will make sure that we add that option very soon.

Karen Helsing 02 Mar 2012

How do I have one of these watermarks put on those pictures I've already uploaded?

AW Staff: We don't have a way to do this yet, but we will make sure that we add that option very soon.

There are links to Apple IPad2 in the posts above. It's the same on the General Discussion board. Why is there a pop-up on some words?

Anneke Hut 02 Mar 2012

Here's a picture of it. But the 'link' words change every time.

ArtWanted.com Staff 03 Mar 2012

Anneke - It looks like you may have a virus/bug on your computer that is doing this to websites you visit, as we are not seeing what you are and our site doesn't allow for HTML links to be input by our users.

Anneke Hut 03 Mar 2012

I didn't see it anymore later today. But I will scan my computer anyway to be safe. :)

I find watermarks such as this distracting and annoying. If you could make it transparent with just the writing showing and the picture showing through it would be far more acceptable artistically.

ArtWanted.com Staff 04 Mar 2012

Yes, if you look at our sample watermarks in this original post, you will see that they are mostly transparent, so they don't distract too much from the original artwork.

Love the new watermark feature! Thanks for constantly adding more great things for us! Many Blessings, Laura

Tsvetana Kalaykova 07 Mar 2012

Can we apply the watermark on previously uploaded images? I like it, and I would like to have it on all of my paintings. Is there any way? Please, let me know if I can do it...I did not see it in the edit options.

ArtWanted.com Staff 07 Mar 2012

This is not currently an option, but we will be making this feature available soon.

ArtWanted.com Staff 20 Mar 2012

We have just added the ability to add watermarks to bulk image uploads and also to existing images in your portfolio from the EDIT IMAGE page. Enjoy!

Kimberly Johnson Nguyen 20 Mar 2012

Love the new watermark feature. Also love that people can not "right click" to save images. Thanks :)

Also, like others said, it would be nice to add the watermarks to previously uploaded images. thanks

Carol Lozito 20 Mar 2012

I was told they were already watermarked. I want mine to say copyright C.L. Lozito and the dated I created and registered it with the Copyright Office in D.C.
