Spamming and HTML in image comments

Due to a few recent problems with certain artwork comments, we have made the following changes to our website today:

1) HTML code is no longer allowed within artwork comments. This means that people can not put website links, color changes or font size changes in the comments that are posted on the site.

2) Website links are no longer permitted within comments. This will stop the random spamming & website ads that we have seen recently on some of your portfolios.

We have gone through all of the image comments and removed website links from past comments on artwork. Due to the time it will take, we will not be able to go through all past comments with HTML and strip it out of the comment. If you have comments in your portfolio with HTML in them that you do not like, you can hide the comment from public view in your comments section of the members area.

These two changes should stop the recent issues we have had with people abusing the image comment system.

Please report to our staff, any image comments that need to be reviewed - Thanks!

Thank you Staff. I haven't had that problem yet. Not here any way, but I have had it happen on other sites and it's very very annoying when it happens.

Thank you!

Personaly I don.t think this is fair. That being if it is a site link to an artists wwork. How else are we to advertise our talents for others to see.You build your site on our talents which are submitted and boost your popularity. If I have a new product containing my artwork and am trying to make trafffic for exposure, and am bringing your site traffic, whats wrong withthat? I wish those uptight people would keep to themselves!

Maybe I'm not reading AW's response properly, but I got the impression that website links were not being allowed *within an artwork comment*. Not that they are no longer allowed within our own portfolios.

Seems fair enough to me. It would I think, be a little rude for me to advertise my own work in someone else's portfolio, no?

This is correct. Website links are just not allowed in artwork comments anymore, but we still have other links on your portfolio page and links in the message boards to promote your website.

thanks

ethan ford 05 Jun 2006

Not been on the boards for a long time.

See nothing changes!!!!!!!!!!!

fred moore 05 Jun 2006

Under what catogory can we post links?

ArtWanted.com Staff 05 Jun 2006

The changes we made only effected comments on artists portfolios. We have not made any changes to the message boards, and anyone want to post URLs to other websites, this is still allowed.

Thanks for the "heads up"

Pat Merewether 06 Jun 2006

Fred, I think you could send a link by having it in your email when you repond to a comment.

thank you

Rated Best-Run-Website - by me. Thanks for your concern. I appreciate your work. We get so much for it.

Cool because it violates the artist at hand by clutter and diversion. Is it alright to place links to other similiar asrt selling sites? What about links to non competitive entities such as curitors and collector types. Artwanted is as blessing asd I learn a lot from the collective sellective you...and the Skipper toooo

You are doing a great job. Thank you

And can you still add links in the description of the image? Sometimes I've got several versions of the image I'm posting, and then I put down the other versions with a href and 'click here for', can I still do that or not?

dear staff recently I viewed a picture from what I thought to be a legitimate member of AW, however now I am stuck with a gif immage on the background of all artwanted.com pages.... the image is of a huge street with high buildings done in pen and ink... No matter what I do I cannot get rid of it. It is very annoying and disturbing... I ma using firefox as browser.... it does not seem to appear on internet explorer. Has this happened to others and if so was it reported? HELP!!!!!!!!!!! I am 71 years old and not so computer litterate.... I thank you in advance for your help corry stuart
