will you say please ,what aproxmately would be file size(MB) for a print size 30x40"? .now the question is ..will you going to allow upload image upto 10MB?

Beth Thompson 06 Jun 2005

I'd love to give this a go. Great idea.

Terry Bullard 06 Jun 2005

sounds good to me.

I agree with Steven Torissi on wanting to see a proof first. Some of my older images, though I really like them, are too small and even 8 x 10's are iffy... I reall like this idea, though. I have very little money at my disposal to really start printing posters and prints in large quantities. Would we have a choice of which old prints we'd want to do this with?

Damn, I'm excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Barbara Kaplowitz 06 Jun 2005

what type of prints, too?? Giclees??? Posters?? glossy paper??

And can we get a really cheap one for ourselves to keep????

Did I mention I was excited?!?!?!

This is the best idea that AW has had in a long time...next to getting rid of the rating system. I am all for it.

Candace Bell 06 Jun 2005

I agree...

"I would prefer a monthly check . . and I would not want to wait every three months for a check. I would rather have my money in my bank rather than AW's........."

One question.. All my current paintings are always uploaded with watermarks to help try and protect my images. Its the same as on my website.

If I were to do this then I would need to upload files without watermarks and at a higher resolution so they could be made into prints. So Im assuming there would be an area to upload these specific images for prints where it wont be viewed by anyone else on art wanted besides those who manage the printing of the files.

Also what are the chances that someone could somehow hack into or find these un water marked images and steel them?

Im sure AW will have a logical explanation I just wanted to ask all the same. I dont want large high resolutions quality images un watermarked ending up in the wrong hands.

This is an interesting idea... but since there are a number of places that do this already, what is your unique selling proposition? And it has to be more than just the great quality of artwork here.... that is only the starting point. I use Cafepress for merchandise, and a few prints. I am sure there are others here who can suggest (for or against) a variety of other places.

Gayla Drummond 06 Jun 2005

I'm for it...I already know the traffic I get from AW has helped my sales at cafepress, so I think being able to sell prints direct from here would be just fantastic. =)

Great Idea..first I'll wait till the results are in..before engaging in any money venture of this type..

Good luck to all who will participate in this venture...

Need proof and price ranges..time will tell.

Johnnice Johnson 06 Jun 2005

I'm in too.

I think this is a terrific idea! I have a couple of questions though. 1.Is this going to increase the average size of images that are uploaded? 2. What is to prevent websurfers from capturing the images and printing them for themselves on their own photo printers? Especially if the uploaded resolution is high?

VICKI ASHWORTH 06 Jun 2005

Ok 1 last question and i will be done..When i download my photos they are each about 22,000 KB and 17" x 12"..So can something this big be sent to get the prints off of..When i reduce them to place on AW, i bring them down to about 2300 KB..I just want to know if it is the huge file you will want to make prints of.thank you

Jessica Morgan 06 Jun 2005

AW, I am all for this, but yes.....how will you prevent people from printing it themselves if the resolution is high? Will you impose the "no right click" at the same time to add further protection to the artists? I have wondered this for some time now.

Lots of good feedback, keep it up. Again, we don't know if this will ever become a reality, but it good to see those that support the idea in case we do go ahead with it down the road.

Many of the questions asked above, we truly don't know the answers to, because we have yet to make any final decisions on how we would run the prints program. We are just in the 'gather feedback' mode right now.

We do know that we would give our users the ability to upload an alternate image just for the printing, so that watermarks could still be put on the web versions, but not the print versions. All of the high-resolution images would not be available online for anyone to view or print. They would be stored in our server archives until needed for printing, so there would be no chance for someone to download/view the high-res version of the images that had been uploaded.

We are also well aware that there are many other websites that offer prints and it's not our goal to complete with these websites. We encourage all artists to put their artwork in as many places as possible.

Our goal with this program would be to make it easy for people to buy prints from many artists all in one place. If we offered this service a buyer could buy prints of 5 artists work and have them all shipped directly to him in one shipment, instead of ordering from 5 different websites and paying the shipping/handling from five websites. There are other advantages as well, but we think this is one of the top benefits to a consumer.

Please continue to give us your feedback. We will answer all of your questions if this program is created, but for now it's too early to get down to the specifics.

Great idea!! Count me in.

wendy bandurski 07 Jun 2005

Uh oh

well I think it is a great idea for those that want to participate......

but to be truthful

I would NEVER offer prints of my work.

I work in texture and specific colour and do not even let people frame my work for themselves.

sorry to go against the grain but I want to retain the exclusivity of my images and do not wish to reproduce them in any form.....

congrats on offering an extension of the current services ....

best of luck untangling this concept...
