ArtWanted.com Prints?

We would like to know the thoughts & opinions of our members towards offering prints for sale of the artwork you upload. We are considering partnering with a photo printing service or purchasing photo printers, so that users can purchase prints from 4x6" to 30x40" of your artwork. This would be something 100% optional and up to every artist to decide if they wanted to offer it or not.

When you upload your original artwork, our website would detect the resolution of your image and tell you what sizes of prints that were available for you to sell with that image. You could select which sizes you wanted to offer and set the price for each size.

We feel that this would be a great way to get your artwork in print and get it into the hands of as many people as possible. Please let us know your thoughts and any questions you may have.

I am for it.

Susan Epps 06 Jun 2005

Sounds a great idea especially if you can assess the dpi. I would be very interested as I only sell in the UK at the moment.

Candace Bell 06 Jun 2005

I like the sounds of that, Im assuming then its shipped out by you and not us but we get a percentage ect?

This is correct. We would do all the storage of the images, printing, shipping and everything else. You would just sit back and collect checks on the monthly/quarterly basis.

RQ Trietsch 06 Jun 2005

Does this include us "Freebie" members ?

Vivian Allen 06 Jun 2005

Yes. This is a good idea. Prints are certainly in demand. Also, art cards are on the rise in popularity. I assume the approximate size is that of a baseball card, or, perhaps the sizes may vary.

Richard Delay Sirs 06 Jun 2005

.. I would certainly try it . . are there any associated fees that artists would incur??

Rob Mandell 06 Jun 2005

I like the idea

Ok i have a question.I know i am new at this photography stuff. But when i upload my photos on here,i reduce them alot first. They are huge when i first load them into my pc.Now will this affect the resolution? I mean i have all the original photos(before reducing the size).I'm just curious. I am all for selling prints,notecards,calenders..whatever it is you decide. As long as we still hold the rights to our photos.

Answers to recent questions...

There would be a handful of different sizes to choose from, all at different prices.

This would probably be available for free and premium members.

There would not be any charges to the artist for this service. The artist would make a commission of each print that is sold. The actual commission is yet to be determined.

If you wish to sale the image, we would suggest uploading a large size of the file. The image will be resized smaller for the web view, and we will store the original large image for any printed that may happen.

Artists would keep all rights to all images, we just want to help you sell them.

. . I would prefer a monthly check . . and I would not want to wait every three months for a check. I would rather have my money in my bank rather than AW's.........

Vivian Allen 06 Jun 2005

Likewise.

Steven Torrisi 06 Jun 2005

I am for it but I think that artists should be sents thumbnail proofs first to assess the quality of the print in terms of paper and dpi because what looks good on the screen does not translate into good on paper. Only makes sense because the idea is not just to get quantity sales but to make sure the artists and customer is satisfied by the quality. Moreover since there were so many people wondering when the calender or book would arrive AW should offer some shipping guarantees (tracking, signature) since its our reputation on the line if they dont deliver.

sounds great!!!

joan warburton 06 Jun 2005

I think it's a fantastic idea! I have the same situation as Vicki, though. I upload my huge photofiles or digital files very small. I have the original files and they'll all print quite large. It will be interesting to see how this works out.

I agree with Daisy, too. You need a tracking system for the shipping or use a company that has a tracking system. It might cost a few cents more but it will save you a lot of grief in the long run. You will not be responsible for undelivered packages. The shipping company will have to provide reimbursement.

HELEN LISHER 06 Jun 2005

Hi

Excellent idea. How long before this system can be ready? Helen

ghada zoughby 06 Jun 2005

this is great. but I have a low speed connection who doesn't allow me to upload huge files,so can I send them on a CD?

this means that my artworks will not be available to print as soon as I post them on AW, It will take 2 or 3 months to collect new works and send them together on a CD.

Joe Bartz 06 Jun 2005

Sounds great, count me in!

PMyers 06 Jun 2005

Sounds good to me.

georgia brown 06 Jun 2005

I think this is a great idea. Count me in.
