Hey all of a sudden I feel like posting some art

RQ Trietsch 12 Mar 2005

AW. will we still have the "Galleries" to view.

I go thru all but 3 of them every day, and it would be a shame to be limited to random choices of certain mediums.

I for one am not a fan of random. I like to browse and check out the pieces that catch my attention.

The names are irrevelant, unless they are posting 10 - 30 post in a single day, then I skip them entirely.

ArtWanted.com Staff 12 Mar 2005

We do not plan to change how the galleries are working, so you will still be able to select a gallery and view the most recent images in that gallery or random images.

Jane McIlroy 13 Mar 2005

I'd just like to add my voice to the general approval - these changes seem to address most of the issues that have been around lately.

A lot of thought and hard work has gone into this - well done, and thank you, AW.

Kari Franklin 13 Mar 2005

Thank you for listening AW staff,

It seems as if you've made a very good effort at addressing many of the issues that have been brought up in the general hue and cry.

I applaud you for that and am looking forward to the new implementations :-)

Great ideas....alot of thought went into this indeed. It is unfortunate that code couldn't be downloaded into minds to stop allowing unimportant things to carry so much weight in our lives...

Sean Lynch 13 Mar 2005

Could not have said it better Pat...

joan warburton 13 Mar 2005

Thank you AW. This is definitely the best art site on the net.

Greg Summers 13 Mar 2005

This changes everything for the better - and I thank you for giving it so much thought and putting int he work to get it done

e-mail I sent to Sher . Hi Just wanted to say I thought the AW changes were very well thought out and I am glad that they used some of the members Ideas. When I first joined one of the first numbers I got was a 7 on the glass blower by a member just called chris with one dark and out of focus pic on his site. I took the 7 off and the painting had to find out who he was. I got my wife to join on her computer and I sent a few members some stern e-mails with quotes. After the second e-mail I felt so guilty after realizing how immoral it was I started using www.dnsstuff.com to find out where they were and who they were. But you can spot them right away anyway I was amazed how dumb some of them were and impressed by how smart others were I wanted to post a list so bad but there was a couple of members I liked on it and I made a mistake on one of my first Quests I was not 100% sure and you have to be 110% SS has been a smart fo But I know who he is now and I know why he was hard to find out&just had to let you know. I felt bad about the e-mails but it helped to let me see how bad what I was doing really was. and I'm so glad I did not rate anyone but I sure wanted to .anyway had to get it off my chest feel better now J.C.S.

While welcoming these changes, I find it confusing why so often, similar suggestions were met with much disagreement.

In this case: "It's not the jounry but the arrival that is important". Thank you AW.

"If someone wants to rate artwork, they can go to a specific section and rate random artwork where the name of the artist is not known."

Um....how are you going to do that? Most of us, if not all of us, sign our artwork. I can't really see someone sitting there and clicking away just to get to the artwork of someone they want to lowball, but then again....look at some of the stuff that's gone on around here!

"Instead, these reports will be based on other criteria that is less subjective and more real."

Can you give a little more info on what they'll be based on? Number of comments? Number of views? I can't really think of anything else you could use, if ratings aren't going to be used there. Satisfy my curiousity, please?

stan jones 14 Mar 2005

i like it but here is a question for you

you say your going to take one of the high scores of and one low score of every piece you have thats great

but what if you only have a 9 and a 8 you lose both rates on your piece is this correct

please dont shoot me i am only asking as it does not effect me personally

Good morning AW. Re: those of us forced into excile; will we have to start our portfolio's from scratch?

ArtWanted.com Staff 14 Mar 2005

Glad to see that everyone is in approval of the proposed changes. Here are a few answers to your questions:

Gayla - The Top Ten reports will remove the rating categories and we will be adding other categories such as images with the most comments, images that are most peoples favorites. More details will come once the changes are made.

Stan - If someone has only one or two votes, then there will be nothing that we can remove to get an average. The removal of the highest & lowest vote will start after three votes have been made.

Bob - No one should need to start their portfolio from scratch, we don't see how this would benefit anyone by doing this

Keep the comments & questions coming!

Dusty Allen 14 Mar 2005

I myself appreciate the comments others give about my work. I appreciate the negatives as much as the positives. How does one improve otherwise? One can not sharpen a knife with out a sharpening stone which is abrasive, hence negative. Sure it is nice to get a slap on the back but to many, and you will stall out, never to learn and progress. Never to be sharper or better than before. If one only wants complements that one will never be a true artist.

Thank you for making the site a success. Actions like these will only help to secure the future.

Gail Caduff-Nash 14 Mar 2005

As a newby to this site, i am grateful and happy with whatever you do. Be well; live long; and prosper.

Kay Meggison 14 Mar 2005

I haven't been on your site very long, but it would appear that you recognize some problem areas and are more than willing to do something about it. Congratulations.
