"supercalafragilistic". See i can say it As you say Bob there would be a few that would knock this idea but it could work

So what would happen no one will see what any one else has tipped the hat so the tally at the end of the day would be number of views against number of hat tipping Every one would have there top ten only done in a fairer way

Like it no bad comments all positive with the skip left in place if you want to move on

Anymore got comments on this idea Come on while this is hot lets trey once and for all to work this out as a group Then there is no need for forty words on low rate (1-5) moderators either You either like a piece tip the hat or you dont tip and keep moving

and i still like you Sher ( hugs )

Maybe we have a low viewing percentage Stan. Can you aford two minutes on CNN?

stan jones 06 Feb 2005

nah some want change but it has to be only one way or not at all and thats a shame because it looked like a winner

looks like every one still wants the 1-10 type shootum up knockem down rating hit them where it hurts system

come on if you want change then lets really do some thing about it instead of looking and just saying same oh same oh leave a comment who knows you could come up with a winner to help all its your choice

WESTERN ARTWORK By Denny Karchner 06 Feb 2005

What Leigh and Bob said...I love it!

Mark Peterson 06 Feb 2005

Good clean competitive fun....sounds simple yet effective Bob. I like your proposal and I agree with Liegh that numbers and art don't mix. They never have and never will. I like the forty words for five and below too, but it won't solve the ten problem, and you will still have those getting upset when given anything less than ten. I tip my hat to you Bob....great Idea!

Been there...done that....bought the T-shirt...anonymous ratings don't work guys. I don't know how long you guys have been members, but I saw it with my own eyes. This place sucked with anonymous comments/ratings....period. Good theory, but it won't hold water in reality...at least not here.

Gordon Szczubelek 06 Feb 2005

I like Bob's idea as well.

I got low- balled shortly after I joined and then I felt foolish complaining. So I was discouraged in rating art for a couple of months. But in the long run if you are not active in rating there is less chance of your portfolio being seen.

As for now, if I see a piece of art that I skip, most times I will go to that artist's portfolio and pick their best piece and explain why. That way my comments are always positive.

Good luck in making AW fun again.

If you think about it Andree, it does balance out. Here it would be your work that gets the "zillion" ratings, because identities are left out. I won't be able to say "Oh good old Andree, I owe her one" because I won't know who sent them.

You have already experienced what tis system can do to people. Lets make the playing field even.

The "Some people who know how to get votes", will now have to rely on the quality of thier work. I am familiar with all that vote gathering reterick. If you think it's working, I'm a dummy.

About comments: there would be no purpose in nasty comments because there are no identies, therefore no pay backs.I think we would start experiencing what healthy comments are like.

"All it takes is an 8 or 9" to bump a top ten. That was exactly Denny's point. Some people that get thier Jollies out of that would no longer be able to.

Yes there are a lot of great artists on this sight whose work is unnoticed. This is proposed more in thier interest than anyone's. It will be works that are noticed, not familiar names and sidekicks. We would be appraising work, not people we like.

If it is fair we want, lets go for fair. If this mess is what is wanted here, I for one won't be around for long.

Pete: Of course; nothing works if you don't expect it to.

Great comment Gordon. Hey Stan, Where are you? Get in here and help me.

I agree with Patrick.. you will not have Utopia with anonymous ratings...go look at the contest ratings (thumbs up, tipOhat),... and how people act when they can't be seen...

To Balance out the 40+ for a '1 through 5' rating, also a 40+ word comment on why a piece deserves a '10'... Think about that one... : )

Besides you are talking about rewriting a whole new rating system , when the one thats in place would work fine if members used it correctly and AW added a few options for priemium members...

Rewriting a whole new concept would take forever...think of how 'on time' the contests are...time being the monster i dont see a swift change for any of us if you ask them to write a whole new program...

I also believe that this issue isnt as important as restraining the fraudulent names that rile everyone with bad comments...

Thus an option to not take ratings but a comments only button from new or free accounts..Isnt what this thread started out as? ...a new fraud member running amuck?

Bob MacPherson 06 Feb 2005

You know how much I respect you and your opinions Sher. I too like the rating system. Your key word is "If".

Obviously the members have overwhelmingly indicated they don't want to use it correctly. That is why so many hurting members have there comments and ratings turned off.

Again in all due respect, I can't see the 40+ words etc changing the hearts of people that want to be destructive and win at any cost.

sher richardson 06 Feb 2005

Bob,

i have 7000 comments on my 150+ works... the percentage of 'mean and vile' maybe a 2%... i find that wonderfully good...and i have 1's through 5's as well....

..to stop the run amuckers isnt through rewriting a complex program, but adding a few options to the one that exists..... thats my view...

..and to use the system correctly, isnt that hard..

A 40+ word on why a piece deserves a 10? Jesus, I feel like I'm back in 8th grade. There is no way I will write a 40+ word for any grade I give. C'mon now. This stuff gets better everyday. I've noticed that out of 9,000 members, I have gotten to know the ones on the message boards. Now that doesn't say much for the other 8,000 or so. Just curious if the other 8 thousand or so feel the same way about the ratings as those in here. It would be nice to have AW run these ideas by them as well.

sher richardson 06 Feb 2005

haha.. yep i did giggle about that 40+ for a 10.... my humourous way of getting more people in that 8000 to be heard : )

And no Norm.. school has been over many years.. go rest your fingers Norm....i expect a 40 word comment from you today..

: )
