Pushin' Timber

A Williamette geared locomotive pushing a load of logs on a temporary trestle somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. The Williamette was based on the Shay design, but was built after the patents had expired on the Shay and thus incorporated many mechanical improvements. These engines were designed for difficult- to-navigate logging areas that required excellent traction and a tight turning radius. Photo reference for this was taken by me of the 3-truck engine on static display in Dunsmuir, CA–I then placed it into a fictional setting. Very few of these locomotives survive today.
