I like to think of pelicans as being extravagantly unassuming in manner and appearance. They are unique and amazing but at the same time humble and familiar. They have also been regarded for centuries as a symbol of selfless love. I painted this to capture that classic image of “a pelican in her piety”, but in the way that I've seen them so many times on the coast of Florida. acrylic enamels on canvas
