I've wanted to paint a series that portrays the grace and dignity of aging. This old fella was gazing adoringly at his owner when I snapped the inspiration photo for this painting, and at the time I was more interested in the reflection of light in his eyes, but after returning to the studio and studying him more carefully, I realized how much more he had to say. Guess he's the first of many old-timers to come.
