16 Years Ago... (Strip Mall Painting)

Here's My Latest Painting. It's a very generic Columbus, Ohio area strip mall set in the year 1996 which was a year i chose just to help re-enforce the mediocrity of the environment. Basically the goal of this one was to create the most mediocre, generic, everyday environments possible, so much so that it actually becomes very interesting because of that odd choice. The piece emphasizes dozens of details that would normally go unnoticed in an ordinary environment (such as the strip mall in this case). Even the cars in the parking lot are mediocre at best. Such as the 1984 Pontiac 6000, and the 1995 Dodge Neon respectively. Also I tried to add as many 90s pop culture references as possible to help set the mood. References like Independence Day, A Dole- Kemp political bumper sticker, radio shack and their "latest gadgets", and much more. So overall I hope you enjoyed feasting your eyes on the little details scattered all over a generic environment. For those of you who like to look for the hidden messages, There are 5 of them. Here are your search hints: 350, 351, The names of two of GM's midsized cars in the 70s, and also the word 'Mustang' is discreetly hidden away. All Fast Lane Design Artwork By Ryan Sardachuk
