watching and waiting

This is my latest endeavour after about a 2 year break while menapause did it's thing with my sight. I can now see the details of what I'm scratching with magnifying glasses and it feels good to be back in the saddle so to speak. Much as I love doing owls the feathering drives me squirrelly(fur is just so much easier to do) but I enjoy the challenge. The original is 11"x14" (28x35.5cm)I'd say there's about 30% loss of detail on the screen image. This one took about 16 hours over the course of 4 days to do.

Your work is exceptional, especially this one because of the tight detail. What type of scratchboard is this?

Trish Gename 22 Jul 2007

Wonderful piece of work! I like all of your work so very much, but you are exceptional in portraying birds, particularly birds of prey; have you ever done one of a kestrel? My son Nigel had one, [very originally named Kessy] he was trained to the lure, but Nigel told me off sometimes because I treated him like a pet; he used to sit on my shoulder and snuggle into my hair: as you know, birds of prey need the fur of the prey to enable them to make their pellets, somehow my cat knew this and would bring home mice to exchange for liver, so Kessy always had the correct diet, freshly caught too. :) Gwen.
