This 29"x40" watercolor was done for the occasion of my parents golden anniversery in 1989. It is the village in Greece from where my Father's family comes. They family operated a small merchant fleet in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. In 1928 my Grandfather returned to Greece to join his brothers' fleet. In 1930, after two years at sea my grandfather had enough, and returned with his family to America and Detroit to re-enter the restaurant business. The three tall masted vessels are the family fleet. From left to right is the Adelphotis, the Panagia, and the Charavie. At the end of World War II while trying to make a return trip from the Greek mainland the Adelphotis hit a mine killing all of the adult males in my Grandfather's family.

I am not sure when you posted the U.S.S. Constitution, but I have just descovered it. I am amazed at the detail, and the quality of the work! You have captured the scene SO beautifully, and your paintwork is outstanding. I have seen this scene, and been on this ship many times over the past five decades, and can truly appreciate the labor that went into this piece, however, I can well imagine it was a Labor of Love!Anonymous Guest 23 Jan 2011
