The Two Van Goghs (2005)

Theo Van Gogh stands next to his distant relative, Vincent. Theo was brutally assasinated by an unrepentent Islamic Fundamentalist in Holland. Vincent died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a life of disappointment and public indifference.

Poor Theo! What a cruel and sensless way to die! I doubt the assasin actually knew about his famial links to the famous Impressionist artist . This picture isn't concerned with 'likeness' but rather of the tragedy of human exsistence. The theme of the 'fated clan'. Reminiscent of the Kennedys, Jack, Robert and John. Jack and Robert were assasinated but the beautiful young John Kennedy (son of Jack)died at the controls of his plane. Vincent shot himself. Fascinating parallels. Theere's no mistaking Vincent's blazing blue eyes and unhinged expression. Love the treatment of the hair on both portraits. Brilliant!
