This is a colored pencil painting based on what I call "an unintended still life", because this scene was not set up with a painting in mind. This scene has set in the antique lawyer style bookcase that we inherited from my Grandmother after she passed away nearly 40 years ago. Along with the bookcase also came the very old books that it originally held. The books that are in this still life painting are some of those books. The book seen on the far left has a copy write of 1887 and the one right next to it has a copy write of 1883. Yet perhaps the most interesting book to me personally is the book on the far right of the painting. This is titled "Larry Barlow's Ambition". This has a copy write of 1902, but it is signed on the inside of the cover. It says, "a Merry Christmas to Willie, from Aunt Edith--December 25th, 1918". This book was given to my Dad as a Christmas present and had been kept by his mother all these many years! I saw the potential of this scene by accident as we were cleaning for our family Christmas celebration this past holiday season and I knew that it would make a perfect still life painting. The piece is entitled "Sharing a Shelf" and is based on a photograph that I took of the scene just prior to Christmas 2016. The painting is done on museum quality Grafix drafting film using Farber-Castell Polychromos and KOH-I-NOOR pencils. The size of the artwork is 11 X 14 inches.

FABULOUS WORK, DEAR WILL !! THE TRANSPARENCY OF THE GLASSES IS A PURE MARVEL!!!! MY FAV !!!!

Artist Reply: Marie-Claire: Thank you so much for your lovely comments. I'm glad that you like this piece, as it is one of my favorites. Finding that one of the books shown in the bookcase was a Christmas gift to my Dad on Christmas of 1918 was quite a surprise. I had not looked inside the books until I decided to check out the copy write date of the books. Always good to hear from you. Best regards, Will
