This is a colored pencil painting done on Dura-lar polyster matte film using Prismacolor Verithin pencils. Color has been added to both sides of the film to enrich the color, since mutiple layers of color cannot be applied to the primary surface of the painting. This is based on a photograph taken by my wife at Usher's Ferry which is located near Cedar Rapids, IA. The dimensions of the painting are 8 inches by 10 inches.

beautiful work

Artist Reply: Jim: thanks so much. I love doing fall leaves and this was just calling to me to do a painting of it. Fall is such a beautiful time of year. Glad that it also registered with you. Best regards, Will

I love this one! So incredibly detailed! Great colour palette too.

Artist Reply: Gemma: thanks so very much. I love fall leaves and these seemed to be set off by the old band stand. I do enjoy doing detail. Probably comes from teaching university level gross anatomy for 31 years! Detail has become a habit even in retirement! Thanks again. Best regards, Will

Will - this is an incredible amount of work. Spectacular! I love the shadows and contrast in this one!!

Artist Reply: Jerry: thanks so much. My wife and I always enjoy visiting this "out door" history museum, especially in the fall. The leaves are so beautiful. This particular scene was just too nice to pass up without making it a more permenent memory. Thanks again for taking time to view my work and to comment. Best regards, Will

Very Awesome colored pencil work,So many details in the wood work and Very Pretty Gold Green Leaves What an Enchanting work in every aspect !

Artist Reply: John: so very kind of you! Thanks. As you probably know by now, I do enjoy doing detail and going for that photo realistic look. I also enjoy doing fall foliage, so this piece was lots of fun to do. Thanks again for looking and taking time to comment. Have a very good Wednesday. Best regards, Will

love the detail in this. I am an anal painter so this is right on

Artist Reply: Darlene: thanks so much. I too am really into detail. The light spoke to me in this scene and I was lucky to capture it as accurately as I did. Thanks again. Best regards, Will

I love gazebos and your detailing is crazy good, esp. the leaves.

Artist Reply: Jane: thank you so much. Scenes like this generate all kinds of memories of things and people past. I see excitement in an era of time that had few entertainment possibilities compared with today. As I have said before, I do like doing foliage. It's relaxing once you get into the flow of it. Best regards, Will

This is a masterpiece. Such careful attention was given to the detail of all the leaves....I'm so glad I could see a nice closeup view of all the work you have done on it. It looks very organic - and realistic. I think it is because you paid such great attention to each leaf and its placement - you avoided making it look overly busy even with all that is going on here.... Bravo!

Artist Reply: Dean: you make me blush with pride! I thank you so very much for such generous comments. I love doing fall foliage and fall colors. The bandstand did seem to speak and I wondered at the entertainment that must have been offered and delivered to visitors of the old days who had no other source of entertainment. Again it had to be the subject of a painting. I'm so glad that you shared in my wonder. Best regards, Will

Absolutely beautiful colors and lines...and again so life-like! Mark

Artist Reply: Mark: This is a very pretty place to visit. The bandstand is located in an historic village that has events scheduled throughout the year. Fall is particular beautiful. Thank you again for your comments and for taking time to view my work. Best regards, Will

Amazing and so memorising...this feels peaceful x

Artist Reply: Jodie: thank you again for your kind comments. I too find this bandstand peaceful, but I also try to imagine what wide variety of talent entertained folks from this place over the many years of its existance. Again thank you. Best regards, Will

Bonnie Haversat 08 Aug 2014

This is a favorite. I love the lovely soft colors and the subject recalls a gazebo in the little park my hometown. My childhood friends and I spent many hours playing games here. Lovely work! ~Bonnie

Artist Reply: Bonnie: thank you so much for this very kind comment. This bandstand is located in an old historic village near Cedar Rapids, IA. When I saw it, I knew that it would make a perfect painting. I couldn't help wondering what many kinds of wonderful entertainment was delivered to folks on weekends many, many years ago. Again, thanks and best regards, Will

I LOVE YOUR WONDERFUL ATTENTION TO DETAIL, WILL. I GREW UP WITH A BILL KIRKLAND WHO WAS IN MY CLASS ON THE PANAMA CANAL ZONE.

Artist Reply: Sharon: thanks again! You will not believe this, but my Dad, William Kirkland, always went by Bill! He was a life-long farmer in Illinois and was never in your childhood area of the world. Quite a coincident name wise! Regards, Will
