If your not paying close attention, you might mistake this fellow for a Mallard, with reverse colors and a very large bill, the Northern Shoveler, oddly enough is related to the Blue-winged and Cinnamon Teal's. They favour shallow marshes where it can use it's large bill to strain small animals and seeds from the water. There numbers have gone down some but due to the purchase of wetland habitat in the USA, Canada and Mexico, to ensure survival. Taken in Ladner, B.C.
