Artist Bio

Tim Beachy is a photo realistic artist whose love of animals can clearly be seen in each one of his portraits. Creating with pencil, pastel and watercolor enables him to capture the true spirit and life of every one of his subjects. By combining all three mediums, Tim is able to intensify the mood and even personality of his subjects; the viewer can look as closely as he wants and see the individuality of each animal down to the tiniest nuance.

Tim attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh graduating with an Associate's degree in 1989. While in school he interned with the Genigraphics Corporation, a computer graphics company. "We had a computer graphics class in high school and I was really hooked on the medium," Tim says. Upon graduation he spent the next three years in the computer graphics field.

It was at this point that Tim's career took a dramatic turn. Upheavals in his professional and personal life caused him to walk away from the art field entirely. He wouldn't draw more than a doodle for the next four years. "Among other things, my father had passed away after a long fight with lung disease, and there just wasn't much joy in my life for quite awhile. I did not feel like drawing at all, " he says. It wasn't until after living with his then fiancé, Heather and her two Great Danes that his artistic inspiration finally returned. "I felt those creative juices start to flow and got the urge to start drawing again."

His first piece would be a portrait of their Great Dane, Gershwin. "Great Danes are beautiful, majestic dogs. Living alongside two of them was very inspirational. It was only natural that I would mark my return by doing their portraits." Those works have led to a series of dog portraits and dog related artwork. 'I really try to show the dog's personality and character when I do a portrait. I try to capture them in distinctive moments, being themselves. I try to catch them "being human".

Tim is currently working his way back into the professional art field, most recently doing illustrative work for SAT Balloons of Boca Raton , Florida. "It was great to get things going again by drawing dog portraits, which I will continue to do. However, I really enjoy the creative challenge of graphic design and illustration and will start to pursue those endeavors once again. Reflecting on the past 10 years of my life has really shown me where I belong and what I should be doing."

Tim currently resides in Perryopolis, Pennsylvania with his wife Heather, son Brennan and their 3 dogs; Italian Greyhounds Enzo and Vito, and Lilly, a Boston Terrier. Tim is a former member of the Pittsburgh Society of Illustrators and has participated in their juried shows. His commissioned portraits can be found in private collections in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Iowa, Ohio and Virginia.
