Self Portrait

I am A. Sathiamuthu and I am 29 years old. Painting brings me into a space of transcendence. I love painting! I have had no formal education in the arts, but I have studied impressionism in depth and art history to some extent. I am interested in exploring different techniques with oils, pallet and brush, and other mediums such as water colour and acrylic. I live in a sustainable farming community in the international township of Auroville, and am deeply involved with permaculture and a life close to nature. This has been a major contributing factor to my art. I love being in nature, with the seasons. Observing the subtle changes, the summer breeze, the colours at dawn and dusk; these things inspire me. Recently, I have been going early mornings to paint the sunrise over various landscapes, like the Bay of Bengal. I enjoy interacting with other artists, it helps me sharing their passions. Seeing other peoples work fills me with joy. I also enjoy participating in exhibitions. I had a small gallery called Art Breeze at Solitude Organic Farm Café. I also exhibited at another Auroville gallery called Neelanjani Art Studio. I also painted during the LUYE music festival held at the farm. I also enjoy sharing my blog on the internet. My first art residency was in Bombay in February. I learnt so much there. I was able to have my own studio for two months to explore my art deeply. I could use the space and do my art however I wanted and this helped me grow. I had the opportunity to interact with other artists of that residency to give me insight and perspective. I was able to go around the city, my focus on the art galleries. The whole experience was a shift in my art completely. As far as the future goes, I can only hope to keep painting more extensively to develop my artistic expression. I would like to learn new techniques and develop my style. I am so grateful to have the possibility to immerse myself into art.
