Artist Bio

Robert Hutcheson was born and raised in Detroit,Mi. He went to school when forced to do so, but otherwise spent his time in trouble or at rock concerts or both. He did art, but didn't try to sell it. He studied theatre in college, moved to NYC and did over 500 off-off broadway performances with the National Improvisational Theatre. He drew cartoons and greeting cards, but didn't try to sell them. Three years ago he moved to Los Angeles, (where he performs with the Really Spontaneous Theatre Company). Last year he painted some sideshow banners and finally went out and tried to sell them. That day he sold six of those paintings, and his life changed in that moment. His interest in the circus sideshow and the world of the strange and unusual began after witnessing a disturbing incident in the freak tent at the Michigan State Fairgrounds. Hutcheson's influences include Paul Westerberg, Sir Graves Ghastly, The Ghoul, The Sheik and Abdulah Fouruk, Screaming Jay Hawkins, Little Richard, Three Dog Night, Neon Park, The White Stripes, Spacehog, Drive-In Movies, and World Cup Soccer. He is a self taught artist and was in a group show at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in the Sales and Rental Gallery in Dec/Jan. 2003. Last year he sold over 50 paintings. Some of his collectors include executives at Disney, casting directors, writers, Doctors, comedians, personal managers and recording studios. You can contact him for commission work, to visit his studio, or for large work. Contact him regarding availability of paintings shown here.
