Self Portrait

Michelle Spiziri grew up in Lancaster County PA. Michelle graduated from the Pennsylvania School of Art and Design (now PA College of Art and Design) with a diploma of fine art. After graduating from PSA&D, she went on to the Maryland Institute College of Art where she received a Bachelors of Fine Art Degree. Later, she received post graduate certification in art education from Towson University and spent several years teaching art grades K-12. Michelle has worked as a set painter on the TV show "Homicide" and on other television commercials, and has also been involved in a variety of solo and group art exhibitions in both Maryland and Pennsylvania. She received the Peoples Choice Award for best painting at the Sowebo Festival (1994) in Baltimore, MD.

Most of Michelle’s own paintings and imagery comes from her own imagination. Never setting out to illustrate a specific theme or story, she creates each image as she goes, changing and shaping it along the way.

Spiziri's artwork has evolved over the years:

"In the past, the images were darker, and now they are more lighthearted, more whimsical. I like to take snapshot images of the “non-moments” in life, which I think are the real moments in life; the everyday things we do and take for granted, and paint that." Michelle has a variety of crafty products derived from her art images; Whimsical greeting cards, frig magnets, people and animal portraits, floor cloths, and story stools. Also available are giclee reproductions on canvas and paper (any size), and of course original art.
