Artist Bio

Melissa Morgan studied Computer Graphics and Graphic Design at New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, Long Island, NY. Working within the NYC design field for several years, she quickly became frustrated with the lack of creative freedom, long hours and high demand.

As fate would have it - she landed an opportunity as Gallery Director in Soho, NYC. Feeling as though she belonged on the other side of the spectrum she set out to find a place where she could nurture her creative spirit that has driven her entire life.

Subsequently, this landed her in Madrid, New Mexico where she currently resides and actively pursuing art.

Artist Statement

My art and inspiration is drawn from everyday life. Sometimes it’s as futile as a heavily decayed moth, lost amongst dust in a windowsill… or as intense as an emotion that seems to consume us.

There’s seemingly no limit to the zany muses that haunt me in the most profound and wondrous ways. I strive to delineate the intangible within them. It is the elicit emotion, the voice and essence I try to depict by drawing on elements of form, color, light and texture.

Having experimented with most traditional / conventional mediums I’ve discovered no one medium alone is enough. Each medium with its wide array of applications can’t be isolated to one single instance. I use the medium which will best evoke the emotion I’m conveying, based on its weight, texture and saturation. The same applies for my use of color and light.

The forms and subjects I use, although sometimes incongruous are chosen carefully. In most cases, there’s more being said than what meets the eye. I leave it up to the viewer to discover or rediscover the wonder in the beautiful and the ugly, but mostly in every moment. I hope you enjoy these paintings as much as I’ve enjoyed the experiences that birthed them.
