if you are chasing the work as a profession to equal the market, then you need to look into the market on demands for certain aspects or get someone that does. Or you be dead in the water.

Successful painters are few and far between. The competition is is the equivalent of a college kid making it as a professional athlete! My advice to you, would be to secure a good education in some related field (I chose fashion design) and then try to sell your art in between the "real job" and again once you retire. You can make a great income of six figures or better, and that will allow you to buy allot of canvases &paint! You can then make your paintings in your spare time, weekends, nights, etc. and market them at Fairs, Shows, On-line, and local shops.

Why do you keep asking us??? My best advice to you would be... find art groups in your area join them. Find out what works in your area. If nothing else you can meet and spend time with fellow artists. Turn the challenges and your frustration in to a journey to find what works for you .... I'm not only giving this advice this is what I am currently doing. you will find that this is a challenge for nearly every artist out there.

Since you have sold over 3,000 pieces but can't earn enough to live on you may want to ask more for your paintings. You certainly have found a market but perhaps you need to re-think your prices.
