Ivory Not an Art Material

Ivory is no good as art.

I'm hereby stating my official position as an active conscientious objector against the use of ivory as a commodity or "art object" as it is not art but a crime against nature to do so.

Jewelry, trinkets, sculpture, antiques and anything made from ivory in the 21st century is immoral. Even faux ivory jewelry and other ivory look alike trinkets ads to the suffering of elephants as it promotes ivory as useful by people around the world in fashion and art or as a valuable object financially.

Pressure needs to be exerted on anyone or anybody either directly or indirectly involved in the purchasing of or selling of ivory either old or new. All who are are involving themselves collectively either directly or indirectly in the extinction of the entire Elephant species.

Each elephant is a family member with relatives and loving friends and do not deserve such disrespect as humans bestowed upon them.

I ask artists in particular to speak up against the use of ivory in any form even if it means damaging friendships with those who wear jewelry made from it.

I caught a lady wearing an ivory neckless in a party and explained to her the reality of our current Elephant slaughter just for the purpose of jewelry and art carvings. I have not heard from her and feel she was not in agreement and thereby insulted.

I love animals also yes I believe you should not use ivory because of respect for them a true friend would understand that.

I even to tell you truthfully do not even like any wildlife killed I think people should stand up and be open to such situations as this if they are not you might never understand why they do it. It is not a matter of why they did quite as much by it already being done.

This may sound silly but it reminds me as if a person was scalped by an Indian just for their hair and are proud of it,it seems to be a criminal act in my opinion.I like certain Indians but not those kind.

Another thing I was thinking I recently in the past got a faux jade gem like chandelier so Vince I see where you are coming from with ivory.I think faux is some mineral in the ivory hopefully it does not have anything to do with ivory. To say that if I didnt go wrong, that gemstones or anything that does not require any sort of killing is alright to wear.

Sorry my fault, faux is an immitation of something just looked it up.

Thanks Lois!

Actually there is nothing of a health value for humans in ivory. A material looking like ivory but cast plastic would be OK but still it ads to the desire for such trinkets at the expense of thousands of out elephant brothers and sisters.

Fake or faux "ivory" used in jewelry and trinkets is almost as damaging to the elephants as the real ivory because it perpetuates the demand for the object itself.

I say destroy all fake ivory jewelry you have and condemn those who will wear it too.

I forgot to mention this photo I took of Mick Jagger's house in Jamaica.

I agree with you Vincent. I might add that Diamonds are as well a blood trade of sorts from the documentaries I have seen re that. I love natures creatures and I know that Elephants hold a strong family bond, they never forget. Elephants will if they come across a dead Elephant touch, feel and seem to grieve over a fallen family member or friend. I do not wear ivory fake or otherwise and will not. I officially side with you on this :0) Happy Painting,I love all your works!!!!!

Well said!!! I grieve for our elephants, and all the animals humans slaughter for their own entertainment and fashion.

I'd have to say to all species who are born vacancy to this planet to show some respect of residency, slowly more and more nature given homes to wildlife is destroyed to make room for hotels and resorts disregarding the already existing residence that populate that region.

Vincent von Frese 14 Jul 2014

Very true indeed CrazyCat.

In fact humans seem to always elevate themselves as superior to all the other life forms except for their beloved dogs and cats.

I personally feel we creatures are connected much more closely than the picture of humans at the top and bacteria at the bottom. I think we in life are all really on the same level just feeling the need to continue on with our lives. It's just that each species prefers the company of their own and humans are the only ones who have a few who care about the rest of life.

I was just wondering how many of you wear leather... belts, shoes, upholstery?

One has to consider the slavery and abuse to native Africans on behalf of the slave trade!

Livingston was the first to document this murderous abuse by slave traders who roamed Africa murdering people in order to consume more and more native African men for slaves ion the business of the international trade of Ivory!
