my latest portraits

This one is of Billy . At first I thought he was just too cute to paint. Hard to not let him look like a doll as he has piercing blue eyes. Must've used every blue in my palette over and over spraying between layers. It looks just like him even if I did let the top of his head drift off....as he is so fair in colour . I used the same technique with my Joby portrait for the same reason.

I'm a little disturbed by the lack of completion on the borders of the child's face. It sends a subtle message of loss and remembrance. It's very well done of course, but it does feel like a memorial. Do you know what I mean?

Where is his hair? Did you mean to leave it out?

What a beautiful portrait. I agree w/Doug in the feeling it conjures up - one of a memorial piece. So give him hair! you've conquered the hard parts - have fun w/some hair!

I think it is very well presented... sometimes it is best to remember that old saying "less is more.."

it is a more contemporary painting of a very common and most times boring subject. This presentation serves the intellect as well as the aesthetic taste of the more savvy art patron.

Do not change a thing.....!

What you painted is awesome. But I agree with some of the other posters, it looks incomplete without the rest of his head. You could also darken the background around where his head would be (reverse-space, I think its called) which would imply that his head was there without really showing it. But really well done!
