Nature's Love

I have finished this painting recently. It was painted from photograph of the white lilium from my garden taken last summer. I tried to be as close to realism or even photorealism. Would appreciate any comments and critique.

I love the texture on the petals. I'm not afraid of bees, but I have a hive I can't get to in my ceiling. Okay, I'm afraid of bees. They are still quite beautiful, I just can't watch shows with bees because they come out. Thank you for showing one where it belongs. Helps me deal with it.

It's so nice, a little black in the background. It would be a challenge to fill in the background, but if you are creative with it, you don't have to actually detail your garden. Great work!

there's almost too much black because the bee is a bit small, but it's an exquisite piece of work. i'm not a big fan of photorealism (why, why?) unless it's conveying something special - as this is. it's good for textbooks and stuff, but you tend to lose yourSELF when you try to make it too real. it is, after all, paint. if you want a real flower, grow one ;) a good flower picture lets you keep the beauty for a much longer time. and it allows us to notice details of the flower that we might have missed. but it's only worth framing if it shows YOU in there somewhere. i think the bee looks sort of intimidated by the flower.

Very nice work, I`m with Gail that the background is perhaps a little too black, perhaps a hint of colour or grey would have been better. Apart from that, I love the rest of it...detail is wonderful (right up my street)... Nicely done...

Hello Everyone and thank you for your comment.

Gail: In the matter of fact I do not like to much photorealism too and if you go through all of my work you will find non of it. But I do appreciate a painters you can achieve in they work effect of photorealism as it is a very hard work. For me this attempt to approach to photorealism was just a challenge for myself : can I do or not ? is my skills are enough to achieve this target ? Now, after finished this work I know that I can and I have learned alot during the work on this painting.

Nail, Gail and Rene: The background looks very dark on the picture. It is made from mixture of Ivory black and Ultramarine blue .

Wow Nathalie! Great contrast.Leads me to believe the bee is about to get trapped, but quite the contrary. great story, great work...jim

i, too, have done realism just to see if i could. the black isn't too black; it's the balance = how the bee seems too small, is what bothers me. it's just big enough to see that it's a bee but the actual size of it seems too small for that much dark space.
