What if...? (CHALLENGE!)

I often thought "What if...?" another artist paints by using a sketch of mine? What if the artist chooses the technique, the colors, all...? I'm sure the final result could be a huge surprise; each and every painting from the same sketch will be a huge surprise for me indeed:-).

Just an idea and/or a challenge:-) If you, fellow artist, want to participate in this strange and innovative experience feel free to do it. Simply, e-mail to me and I'll send the original sketch in a bigger size to you. (I'll not ask for royalties:-)

My sketch will be taken ONLY as BASIS. You can -you must- do YOUR OWN version. Feel free to modify it. If the final result "reminds" only a bit my sketch I'll be happy :-)

Until now, TEN fellow artists (I'm included) are involved on this project. It's an exciting experience for me and if you take the challenge I can assure lots of fun to you as well :-)))

This one is the original sketch . If you want to participate, simply e-mail me and you'll get a bigger file in your mailbox.

Important: NO DEADLINE. (But I'll be biting my nails :-)

Detail (finished).

I'll not post my work by now. I prefer to know your works before :-)

Anneke Hut 24 Jul 2008

Hi Armando, I have started. :) Have NO idea when it will be finished.

Armando Salas 24 Jul 2008

You still are a girl: you've AN ENTIRE LIFE to paint it :-)

I'm proud of your participation, Anneke! Thank you!

I finished mine few minutes ago. Perhaps I'll add few details, not sure.

I am planning the next works. Nowadays I'm veeeeeryyyyyyy creative:-)

Hey you Armando!

I used your design as a warming up yesterday, to get in the mood, to find out what medium I'll use for that challenge... . (See excerpt picture, NOT part of the challenge.) It's a watercolor with Indian black ink on heavy watercolor paper. Too much like yours, yet in another style but as I said before: this was a warming up! (Smile!)

NOW I'm really gonna do something different:

An Abstract? May be...

An oil? Might be...

LARGE? Could be...(not?)

Or an ACEO?

We'll see....

Love, Light and Peace, OLGA

Olga, that is Armando's sketch done in your style all right...:)))

I was going to do mine when I stay with my mother this weekend.. I won't be changing his sketch, but just rather paint in my own style... if I remember having a style that is...lol

I can't wait to see others too... and this is fun, so thank you, Armando..:))

Cheers Blue(Keiko)

Eleven artists are involved on this project until now. I'm tninking about a "common" comment for all people. Although you all are the real artists, it's as if your creatures were "my kids". Does a father show preferences? No. All the sons and daughters are beautiful and loved.

I'll not like to hurt someone because I write "Wonderful" to one and "Lovely" to another one. I must be cautious because all people put the same feelings on this work and I must thank you for that.

Yes, I'll write a COMMON comment.

Impressive start, Olga. It almost brought tears to my eyes. Thank you very much.

Looking for your next version.

Keiko and all kind and talented artists involved on this project: I'm biting my nails :-)

Keiko: Special kiss for Reba. My thoughts and prayers are for all of you.

Although each artist will work on the suitable size for her/him, I simply inform to all of you about the size of my version:

59 X 42 cm

If my Babylon works properly :-)...

= 23,228 X 16,535 inches.

:-)

Minerva, you'll agree if I say "Creativeness is endless".

Those "splashing waves on the sailboats" you loved so much are fishes in my version :-)

LOL! :-))) Please forgive me :-)))

Armando Salas 25 Jul 2008

Wow, Minerva! Are these words taken from one of your books at Amazon.com? Do people know you are a well known poetess and writer?

Minerva:1. Armando:0.

Last time I'll compete (fight) with you :-))))LOL!

You don't need luck. Simply use your natural talent.

Since I already finished my "Peixeiras" and all of you still are enjoying (or suffering :-) the challenge I already started my next work (Don't worry, itsn't a new challenge:-)

This work is about the fishermen at Costa da Morte and their brave women. Costa da Morte means "Coast of Death".

Costa da Morte is part of the Spanish Galician coast. The Costa da Morte extends from the villages of Fisterra and Caión.

The Death Coast received its name because there have been so many shipwrecks along its treacherous rocky shore. Instead of being sheltered by an intricate coastline or by islands as the Rías Baixas region is, the shore of the Costa da Morte is exposed directly to the Atlantic Ocean. It is an area that has been impacted by a number of oil spills, including the spill from the Prestige in 2002.

The exterior cape region is known for anthropological, historical and geographical reasons. Its name in the Galician language is Fisterra, which descends from the pre-Roman legend which held that this area was the end of the world (Finis-terrae). The area was largely Christianized by the Catholic Church with the aid of a large flux of Christian pilgrims arriving on the Way of St. James.

The people of the area still preserve pre-Christian Celtic ritual places and pass on some of the traditional beliefs. For example, there are giant pedras de abalar (i.e., "oscillating stones"; the common term in English is rocking stone) throughout the region. These pedras de abalar were sacred Celtic locations and used in various rituals that are remembered in local culture. There is also a local legend that the wind creates wild nightmares.

----

Since I want to show the firshermen's hard and dangerous work and also the anguish their women suffer, my work must be done by using cold and dark colors. This challenge is only for me, but it's a REAL challenge for sure!.

"The area was largely Christianized by the Catholic Church with the aid of a large flux of Christian pilgrims arriving on the Way of St. James."

I also drew something about those pilgrims. It's a very significant part of our culture and tradition.
