ArtWanted.com Print Program Launch

We are excited to officially open the doors for the new ArtWanted.com print program! This program is designed to turn browsers into buyers as our members can now offer high-quality prints of their artwork for all that come to ArtWanted.com.

We are currently offering prints from 3.5x5" up to 30x40" in three different finishes (glossy, matte & Lustre). We will soon be offering canvas prints and many other personal products as well (ie mousepads, cups, hats, t-shirts, etc.).

To get started selling prints of your artwork on our website, you first must be a Premium Member, then you just need to sign our print agreement and you are ready to go. As you upload your artwork to our site, you will be able to choose to offer prints as well. You will select which sizes you want to sell and soon be able to set your own pricing for these items.

We have created a large help/FAQ section to answer most of the questions you may have about this new program. If you have a question that is not found in our help section, please e-mail us or post it on the message boards for a prompt reply.

Despite our best efforts, not all of the things we had on our wish list for our Aug. 1st launch date have been completed yet. The two biggest things we are still working on are the ability for artists to set their own prices and the ability to ship internationally. These things should be completed within the next week or two, but there are many things that are ready to go today. You can upload your artwork and sell it at our default prices and you can also order copies for yourself at our reduced artist pricing to check out the quality. We have a big list of cool things we want to build for the print program and you will see these ideas unfold before your eyes in the upcoming weeks.

To get additional details on the print program and to start getting your images ready, check out the following area of our website:

We greatly welcome your comments and feedback for this new print program. We have investigated tons of printing solutions online and we truly feel that ArtWanted.com offers the best artist program on the Internet. We look forward to seeing your beautiful talent in the hands of ArtWanted.com buyers!

Is this program ready to actually have files uploaded? If we wanted to have print capability available for a work we have previously uploaded but need to upload a higher resolution image of that work what is recommended we do?

VICKI ASHWORTH 02 Aug 2005

Ok since all this is new to me i need to find something out.. i have adobe photoshop CS2... when i opened up one of my photos here is what it read.. width..3072 pixels height..2304 pixels.. width...17.067 inches height..12.8 inches 180 pixels per inch now i can change the pixels and then that changes all the sizes...what should i have for photos to be made 8x10 and bigger? thanks..i can't wait to get into this.

When can we begin to upload our images?

ArtWanted.com Staff 02 Aug 2005

Yes, the program is all ready for you to upload high-resolution images for prints.

If you are uploading a new image, there is a check box on the form that asks if you want to make prints of the image you are uploading. Once the image is uploaded, you will be shown the image resolution and have the ability to check which sizes you want to offer. Once you select your sizes, the prints will be instantly available for purchase on your portfolio page.

If you wish to upload a high-resolution image to artwork that is already in your portfolio, simply go to your MANAGE PORTFOLIO page and click on the EDIT button on the image you want to print. On the edit image form, there is a link to attach a high-resolution image to the image. You will be taken to a new page to upload your high-res image and be given the print size choices after the image is uploaded. If you choose this method, your online portfolio image will not be changed, because you are only uploading a high-res image for printing purposes.

Let us know if you have any questions.

A couple of questions for the AW gurus,

1. According to your price chart, the maximum size is 30" x 40" but your FAQ says you can offer up to 36" x 48". Which one is it? I have one that is 36" x 48" so I am not trying to be petty.

2. If you already have your image uploaded, do we need to wipe it out and re-upload to get the print option? (never mind, it just got answered!)

3. When will the sample pack be available?

Thanks!

Another question. How do we go about ordering samples of our own work?

Steven Ratcliffe 02 Aug 2005

I managed to upload one high res image for the Print Program. When Ive tried to upload more, I get a browser message saying

"the document contains no data"!

whats up with that? Ive been trying to upload more images for hours now with no luck. Is it a problem my end or yours?

Gayla Drummond 02 Aug 2005

"Low Resolution Warning!

NOTE: The resolution of this image (400 x 600 pixels) is not high enough to be accepted into the ArtWanted.com print program. You will need to upload a different file of this artwork created at a higher resolution to offer prints. The minimum resolution for our smallest print size is 700 x 1000 pixels."

I'm getting a little exasperated with this one. I uploaded the portfolio piece last night, and was unable to upload any higher resolution files to any of my artwork.

I've managed to upload 6 higher res files to previously uploaded artwork in the last 1/2 hour or so, but this one will not upload.

I'm trying to upload a 2400x3600, 400dpi jpg file on this piece: http://artwanted.com/imageview.cfm?id=219087

Why does it keep giving me the above warning message? And can I just email the file to you guys to get it where it needs to go for the print program?

Thanks muchly, in advance. =)

Oh, and I'd like to know where it shows that prints are available on the images' pages...it is going to show that, right? EDIT: Nevermind, I see it now! =) The cart looks great, works fine as far as I went with it. =)

Okay, same type of problem with another image. I have uploaded it as a zoomed image with a different look to the brightness and such, and that is the one I want to use as an available print, but it won't allow me to upload the higher res file...I get the same warning as above, with the different pixel/res sizes noted.

Now, I know that it's giving the pixels/res for the original 'for my portfolio' res/size. That is not the sizes of the print quaility images I'm attempting to upload on both of these. Why, oh why, won't it let me upload just these two? LOL =)

ArtWanted.com Staff 02 Aug 2005

Answer Time...

Joe - 30x40" is the maximum of our current sizes available, but we should have the 36x48" available soon. We should have the 'sample pack' available by the end of the week.

Pat - RE: How do we go about ordering samples of our own work?
Once you have selected the sizes you want to offer, you can simply go view the image on your portfolio and you will see the order information & sizes. Once you select a size, the 'shopping cart' will detect that you are the artist and will set the price at the lower 'base price' for you to order prints of your own work.

Steven - RE: the document contains no data
There can be several reasons for this error. If you are not able to upload the image after several attempts, then e-mail us the image so that we can take a look at it. From this, we will either be able to upload it for you, or tell you what the problem is.

Gayla - RE: Low Resolution Warning
If you continue to get this notice, again we suggest that you send the image to us so that we can take a look at it. As this is the first day of the program, there might be a little bug that is causing it, or something that we can do to fix this in the future.

Gayla Drummond 02 Aug 2005

I will send the 5 images I'm unable to upload to you via email, one at a time. If you figure out what's going wrong after the first one or two, let me know, and I'll upload the others myself once it's fixed. =)

joan warburton 02 Aug 2005

Oh, this is so cool! I'm soooo excited!!! You made it easy enough, even I can figure this out! (after a few tries) LOL! Thank you so much!!!! Outstanding!!!! Whoooohooooo I'm having so much fun!

ArtWanted.com Staff 02 Aug 2005

Great to hear the positive feedback. Please let us know how we can make thing even easier and what things you found difficult or hard to understand so that we can improve them.

joan warburton 02 Aug 2005

I worded that part wrong.... You made it easy- me the dummy! I have a knack for taking simple and making it complicated.

Is there a way to sell your art to friends at special prices, the price you would pay for your own art?

Where can you see if someone bought a print?

When will you guys offer mousepads and such?

ArtWanted.com Staff 03 Aug 2005

If you want your friends to get lower print prices, then you would need to purchase the artwork for them under your account and put in their shipping address.

We are adding a section to the members area this week that will show you all of the sales you have generated from your artwork.

Mousepads and many other items will probably be out in September.

Magdy A 03 Aug 2005

Great, thanx for the info

Gayla Drummond 03 Aug 2005

Apparently, my two emails sent yesterday with the attached image files weren't delivered. I received a failure notice on each one.

Can I get that verified by a staff member that they were not, indeed, received?

Thanks!

ArtWanted.com Staff 03 Aug 2005

No, we did not get your images. Please resend them. Make sure they are RGB JPG images and that they are under 5 meg each.

You may also have limits on your mail server that prevents large files from being sent, you will need to check with them about your attachment maximums.

Diana Hume 03 Aug 2005

Oooooops.

I accidently clicked on the button to hide my prices until I am able to set custom prices Aug 15.

Can I undo that?

Gayla Drummond 03 Aug 2005

I've resent the first one again. Let's see what happens this time around.

EDIT: LOL...I just rechecked the error email....um, what is y'all's limit on receiving files? My file is less than a MB, sends fine...email states it was over the limit in size for your email server. =)

I'll try zipping it and sending it.

This discussion continues on the next page...
