New ArtWanted.com Print Program Details

We are very excited to announce the new 'ArtWanted.com Print Program' that will launch on August 1st, 2005. This new program will enable our members to sell prints and other products of their artwork on our site to hundreds of thousands of ArtWanted.com visitors.

We expect this new program will not only bring more exposure to the artwork of our members, but also make some extra money for many of you. Below are the details of this great new opportunity for our members that is going to take ArtWanted.com to a whole new level:

What products will be available to sell?

You will be able to offer glossy, matte, lustre finish and canvas prints of the artwork you upload to our site. We will be offering dozens of different sizes from 3x5" up to 36 x 48 inch prints, depending on the resolution of the images you upload. Within a few weeks of the program launch, you will also be able to sell personal items such as mouse pads, mugs, t-shirts, puzzles, magnets and much more of your artwork. Artwork frames will also be available shortly after the program launches. We will continue to add new products over time as the program grows and develops.

What shipping methods are available?

We will be offering 4 ways to ship out the prints: First Class Mail, Priority Mail, 2nd Day Express and Overnight service. All methods except for first class will have a tracking number available to track package shipping. We will ship to most all countries with a reliable mail system. The price of shipping will be calculated at the time of order and will depend on the method of shipping, number of products ordered, sizes of prints and destination. Orders will be shipped out within 1-2 days of the order being placed.

What advantages does this program provide over other websites?

There are many reasons why we decided to start this program and why we feel we have a competitive advantage over other websites. The biggest reason is because of the traffic and exposure ArtWanted.com can offer to your artwork, that other websites can not. We also offer great prices and top quality printing of your artwork. We also offer a simple way for you to sell hundreds of different sizes of prints & products with a few clicks of a mouse.

What is the cost of the prints and artist commission?

As the artist, you determine what you want to sell your prints for. We will give you some guidelines and default pricing, but you can charge whatever you like for your artwork prints. Each product has a 'Base Price' which is the lowest price we can offer the product for. You can offer your artwork for sale at the base price, but you simply don't make anything on the sale of any prints. You can, however, purchase prints of your own artwork at the base price. Any amount above the Base Price, we simply split 50/50. If you set the retail price to be at least double our suggested amount, ArtWanted.com will lower our commisions to a 75/25 split.

For example, the base price on an 8x10 print is $2.95 and our default retail price is $12.95. For every 8x10 you sold, you would make $5.00 ($12.95-$2.95)/2

The ArtWanted.com portion goes to cover the server hardware, bandwidth, office staff, printing hardware, printing supplies, credit card fees, commission tracking and all of the other expenses to run the program.

Here is a complete list of the default pricing & base prices for the products that will be available on August 1st.

How are commissions paid?

Artist commissions will be paid every two months for the sale of any prints on our site. We can mail out a check or deposit the money directly into a PayPal account for you. Commissions must be $20 or more to have a payment sent out. Any amounts under $20 will be carried over to the next pay period or can be used at anytime for other ArtWanted.com products/services. The sale periods are Jan-Feb, Mar-Apr, May-Jun, Jul-Aug, Sep-Oct, Nov-Dec. Payments will be made by the 15th of the month following the close of the sale period. Daily reports will be available to you online to see how many sales you are making and what you have earned.

Is there a cost to join the print program?

Unlike other websites, there are no setup fees to join the ArtWanted.com Print Program. However, due to the large amount of server space, bandwidth and programming required to run a successful print program, you must be an ArtWanted.com Premium Member to participate and sell prints of your artwork.

Is there an agreement to sign with ArtWanted.com?

Yes. We have put together a simple print agreement that must be signed before an artist can participate in the program. This agreement briefly outlines the program and grants ArtWanted.com the rights to print copies of your artwork. You can stop selling prints of your work at anytime on our site. To review the agreement, click here.

How do I select what images I want to sell?

After the program starts, you will be able to upload a high-resolution image of any of your portfolio pieces and indicate that you want to sell prints of that artwork. Once the image is uploaded, you will be able to select what products and sizes you want to offer on our site and even set your own price. None of the files of your current artwork are eligible for the print program, because the web files will not produce a quality print.

What is the minimum resolution of the images?

Artwork prints under 8x10" size must be at least 200 DPI. Artwork above 8x10 must be at least 150 DPI. For example, to create a 4x6" print at 200 DPI, the file must be at least 800x1200 pixels. We recommend 400 DPI for the best results. All artwork will be personally inspected by a staff member to insure quality prints. All high-resolution images will not be accessible to the public and will only be used by our staff to fulfill print orders.

What file types are accepted?

JPG, PNG, BMP & TIF images are accepted in RGB format. GIF images only have 256 colors and do not produce a quality print. We strongly recommend a high quality JPG image for the fasted upload time and great printing results. You can also upload an alternate version of your artwork that is different from your online portfolio. This feature will normally be used to remove watermarks on your print versions.

Can I send a CD to ArtWanted.com of my artwork?

If you have a slow Internet connection, you can mail us high-resolution version of your artwork for the print program on a CD. There is a small $1 charge per image for us to upload and process your image for you from a CD.

What can I do to prepare for the launch of the print program in August?

Here are just a few ideas of things you can do to get ready to sell your artwork:

  • Review your portfolio and past artwork and determine what artwork you want to sell on our site.
  • Start collecting high-resolution versions of all your artwork that can be ready to be uploaded.
  • Review our default pricing and determine the price you want to sell your artwork for.
  • Review our print agreement and e-mail us with any questions you have.
  • Make sure you have a Premium account.
  • Ask us any questions you have before the program begins.

ArtWanted.com has invested a large amount of money and time to make this a successful program for our members. We have researched dozens print providers, ordered hundreds of print samples, purchased new servers, hired new staff members and many other things to make this program a large success. We want to provide a quality service that everyone will love to use.

We are sure that many of you still have questions, so please don't hesitate to ask them by replying to this message. We want to get all of the questions and issues resolved before our big launch date on August 1st!

Gayla Drummond 08 Jul 2005

Sounds good! =)

Antony Rufus 08 Jul 2005

Really good news friends. Time to work on high resolution paintigs and photographs. And time to upgrade as well!

jennifer blenkinsopp 08 Jul 2005

I think this is a great step forward, I do feel though set prices would be better for the AW charges, the larger the print the more charge, and eg more for canvas, the 50/50 charge would run out a very expensive print, for artists which sell thier work at a more expensive price, and AW would be taking more from these artists.

wendy bandurski 08 Jul 2005

well to be perfectly honest here with all the ruckus of the book and calendar products.........I am not sure i feel I could trust aw to be prompt and professional with my clients...........I do not mean to put a dampner on anything but I am fussy and I am not convinced at all.......

there are many inconsistencies on this site and well thats ok when it only affects me 'the artist'.....not sure I would like to expose my clients to the vagaries of this site....please understand...the proof will be in the pudding so to speak........

I should like to 'tick the box' ......but am not entirely confident in your ability to deliver.......

I shall await artist feedback considering my great distance from your operations and the experiences non usa customers have previously had........

remaining somewhat skeptical

but wishing you the greatest of success

Thanks for your honest opinion Wendy. We are sure that there are others that feel the same way you do on this, due to past message board postings.

You are correct that there have been a few bumps in the past. However, the thing some people may not realize is all of the thousands of happy customers that had a very smooth transaction, that never say anything to the public. You really only hear about the complaints on the boards.

We have taken many steps to insure that things run very smooth and that the program is a success and learned from any mistakes that have happened in the past.

We just hope that once the program gets rolling and it's a success, then these doubts can go away. We also plan to send out customer feedback surveys on all orders, so we can always gather feedback and improve the process for the next person that orders. As you say, the proof will be in the pudding.

Great! Looking forward to it.

joan warburton 08 Jul 2005

I love the idea that I can make prints for myself. I also like doing it thru AW because of the past history. You've done everything in your power to correct any mistakes and make things right. I expect there'll be hitches here and I wouldn't want to go thru this experience with a company that I know nothing about. Thanks AW.

This sounds wonderful

VICKI ASHWORTH 08 Jul 2005

ok question...it is early in the morning yet for me..and all the brain cells are not awake.. Say ,i was doing an art show here and wanted to sell my prints..i can buy dozens of them from you for the base price and then sell them at the art show..and all i have to pay is the base price?plus shipping..and will shipping be a based on item or if i order alot will there be a different shipping price? And for the ones we will sell here on AW will there be an icon or something on the ones we choose to sell through AW? thanks..and this is an awesome idea!!!!

ArtWanted.com Staff 08 Jul 2005

Yes, you can order bulk prints at the base price and have them delivered to you. Shipping rates depend on many factors, but if you order a bunch, there will be a different shipping price than just one item. We will also have a special icon on the images and portfolios that are part of the print program. There will also be a new search engine created for those that want to shop for prints.

Casey Catton 08 Jul 2005

Sounds like a great plan...and will be a welcome service for many...including myself. I am a tad concerned about shipping to Canada and quality of prints, but will definately give it a try...at least once. Running a business is hard, and starting something new is harder...especially of this magnitude...BRAVO to you AW...for giving it your best shot! And I for one, will give you a shot at supplying me with some prints! :)

Jessica Morgan 08 Jul 2005

Wooohooo!! I'm excited! Sounds excellent to me!! Thanx AW!

Pat Abbott 08 Jul 2005

Wow! I for one can not wait for this new option!

Diana Hume 08 Jul 2005

Sounds great to me. You've put a lot of hard work and consideration into this project.

Thanks

Betty Schwartz 08 Jul 2005

Well, sorry to say, I'm with Wendy. Since I am STILL waiting for the promised $25.00 payment I won in the Landscape Contest a couple of years ago, I am leery of expecting the payout part of this program to run smoothly!

Laura Smith 08 Jul 2005

Will artist's who do not wish to participate in selling AW prints but still wish to sell their own (from another vendor) on this site as in the past still have that option?

Joe Bartz 08 Jul 2005

Sounds great but you lost me at "you must be an ArtWanted.com Premium Member to participate and sell prints of your artwork".

I'm not trying to be a turd but what purpose does this serve? Don't you think you would make more if it were available to everyone?

Sarah Fox 08 Jul 2005

there are other sites where you don't have to be a premium member or pay anything that will provide this service
