We apologize for those of you that had to see the recent comments posted on one of our members images. We also thank those of you that alerted us about it and were doing what you could to help the situation. This issue has brought up several things that we wanted to address.
1) First off, the offensive comments have all been removed. We deleted several accounts and we are now blocking several IP addresses of those that left these comments. This is a warning to anyone reading this, if you post language like this, you will be removed from our website.
2) If you allow anonymous comments in your portfolio, then you are open to attacks from anyone off the street and they can say what they want about your portfolio. Usually most comments are positive from anonymous visitors, but like this situation, they can get ugly. If you do not want this happening to your portfolio, then require comments to be posted by ArtWanted.com members only in your member preferences page.
3) Remember that as the artist, you can delete any comments you want to from your portfolio. This should have been the first step here. If you see an offensive comment on your portfolio, then you should delete it ASAP.
4) We are aware of the bug that allows members to post multiple comments on the same image. This bug will be fixed this week so that this can no longer happen. If the person is anonymous, then they too will only be able to post one comment.
5) ArtWanted.com is a business and most businesses are closed on the weekends. We usually check out the site a few times over the weekend, but unfortunately it did not happen this weekend. We do realize the need to have at least moderators watching the site over the weekends with the power to take action when things like this come up. We are working on a plan for this and we appreciate those that have volunteered to do this. We will be contacting you as soon as the programming is completed for you to take actions.
Hopefully these actions explained above will reduce or eliminate future situations like the one that happened this weekend.
