If you are a clown...it's hard to not get attention. There may not be such a thing as a good or bad clown in terms of artistic appearance. But I've notices that artists who appear "artsey" get more attention(like a clown does)and consequently sell more art. This must be because people need to feel like they are stepping outside of their own worlds when confronted with art resulting in a feeling of euphoria.

In my opinion person who dislikes themselves will more likely have trouble enjoying art whereas a happy person is always positive and can see more in art every time.

Wait just a minute!

What are you trying to say?

Are you calling me an artist?

Vincent von Frese 25 Apr 2013

These words can make or break you;

An artist of merit, stature and "of public acclaim" as well as an artist "of note" and a "noted artist" as the journalists put it. Meaning that all the rest of the artists around aren't on the same established platform as the one you have earned.

Too much attention is focused on whether someone is a "true" artist. Being an artist is easy. You just have to present something as your art, and you art an artist.

Whether you are successful, important, relevant, avant-garde, evocative, original, meditative, unique, intuitive, logical, beautiful, sophisticated, captivating, mesmerizing, extraordinary, elaborate, significant, dramatic, vibrant, primitive, strong, sublime, expressive, soothing, inspiring, decorative, contemplative, passionate, emotional, suggestive, decadent, irrational, poetic, moving, monumental, mysterious, mystical, modern, or elegant depends on outcome of the communicative process the work developes with the audience.

If there even is such a thing as your words "true artist" Dan then it is only natural that there is such a thing as a "false artist" as well right?

Dan Ault 29 Apr 2013

I don't think there are any false artists. But, in my opinion, there are an awful lot of poor artists.

Cole McLester 29 Apr 2013

We all have to start somewhere. A poor artist is just a person willing to take more chances and have more vision than those who never started.

To identify bad art one must have a grasp of what constitutes good art. Miro said, "In a picture , it should be possible to discover new things every time you see it... You can also look at a picture for a second and think of it all your life." --Joan Miro

i'd have to contest that quote, carson. not only am i not a bad painter, i enjoy it immensely..it is my life's work.

I like all art, I'm sure if an artist produces an ugly piece, the next piece will not be so ugly, experience moves ya!
