Artist Statement:
In 1975 he was born in Iowa City, Iowa to migrant workers and spent his childhood in the small town of Premont, TX. As a young man he enrolled at Texas State Technical College and chose to study Drafting and Design. At the early age of five he drew murals, in pencil, in his bedroom walls. He started painting studies (life-drawing, sketching and anatomy) at the age of 25. Marco Antonio studied under Hector Aristo (in charcoal) and Aldo Biglione (in ink). He was influenced by many different art styles in his work, including western art, expressionism, cubism, and surrealism. The beginning of his painting career did not start until late 2001, at the early age of 25, after moving from San Antonio to the Rio Grande Valley and began experimenting with rubbing alcohol and acrylics (a technique also taught by Hector Aristo), then progressing into oils. Once he was able to understand both the ink technique and the rubbing alcohol he began to combine the two. Most of the paintings were constructed simple by using individual objects, off-centered subject and unusual angels and by allowing all mistakes to take form in his work. As he continued to paint he started to see newer techniques start to develop. After graduating for TSTC, in 2004, he worked as an assistant organizing and coordinating art exhibitions at Espana Mediterranean Cuisine with Hector Aristo and Isaac Guerra. As he continued to paint he joined the McAllen Creative Incubator in November of 2005. .
