Artist Bio

Louise Rachel Kerr was born in a very rural part of Scotland and has been painting and drawing since the age of three.

Growing up with no electricity until she was twelve, art was truly her passion. Both of her parents had been artists and drawing every day was highly encouraged. She was accepted into Art College in Glasgow at the age of sixteen for architecture and fine art.

Moving to New York in 1991, she discovered soft pastel and studied under some of New York’s finest Pastel artists, Daniel Greene, Suzanne Young, to name a couple. She was also a member of various art leagues both in Manhattan and Long Island. She started giving live portrait demonstrations in Pastel. While living in New York, she was invited to exhibit her work in six Starbucks locations, paving the way for other artists nationwide. Due to this exposure, private collectors started purchasing her work. In 1999 and 2000, she won first prize in Pastel from the New York Art League and exhibited in The National Arts Gallery of Manhattan and the Coe Hall Museum on Long Island.

In 2005, she moved to California and became a US citizen. She currently resides in Laguna Beach. Her Studio and private Gallery on Laguna Canyon Road can be visited by appointment.
