Self Portrait

Kelly McKernan was born in 1986 in California and (unfortunately ) migrated to Georgia with her family a few years later. Having a fervent fascination with the imaginary and being bound with creativity, she developed the idea of becoming an artist at a young age and continues to pursue her increasingly ambitious goal.

She is currently attending Kennesaw State University seeking a BFA in Drawing & Painting with expected graduation in May 2009. She aspires to attend grad school and pursue a MFA in Illustration and become a freelance illustrator and artist extraordinaire.

Kelly is strongly inspired by the movements and ideals of art nouveau, analytic cubism, symbolism, and surrealism, as well as retro design and contemporary fine art. She explores the uncanny, out-of-context, and the unexpected and is a firm supporter of serendipity interrupting her process to form the outcome of her work.

Kelly encompasses a wide range of media into her work ranging from photographic processes to printmaking techniques and unconventional forms of painting. She enjoys film photography, snowboarding, thrifting, writing, her iPod shuffle, baking cupcakes, and bonding with her cat, Toulouse.
