I am an educator, a painter and a photographer. I am most often taking photographs related to nature whether at the beach or on a walk and I often take photographs of the living beings in the natural world such as plants, flowers or trees. My photographs can be inspired by something simple but beautiful in everyday life whether it is a cloud formation or the shadows cast from a buidling. . I love unique and historitical archtitecture as well as modern iconic buildings and these buildings can also be found in my photographs. I enjoy the physical act and feel of painting with acrylics or mixed media materials and connecting them to a canvas or wooden panel. I create these original abstract or mixed media paintings using various acrylic paints and enjoy using neon and metallic paint as well as metallic acrylic ink, modeling gel, modeling paste, beads, sand and paper. I am drawn to bright colors and my work often has various levels of paint rising from the surface of the canvas. These textured levels or ridges are made with modeling paste, modeling gel or simply involve painting many layers of paint on paint or some combination of this. My concept of painting is that it is an expressive and spontaneous act of creation which connects our physical self to the unconscious self or spirit. It is a way of expressing feelings and thoughts that may be eitherbarely conscious or unconscious and lie beneath.the surface. While I sometimes have a specific plan about what physical item, feeling or abstract concept i want to express, I am now more interested and drawn to the act of spontaneous expression without any plan or preconceived idea. As such, the outcome of the painting arises as it is being created. In this way, I often paint without any preconceived concept of what I want to create visually or what the painting is expressing in its relation to the physical world or to the emotion or meaning behind it For me, painting is an expression of a feeling or arising conscious or unconscious thought that may not be available to express verbally or might be bubbling below the surface and trying to come forward.
