Artist Bio

I am Jordan B. Mang-osan, a very simple “Igorot” artist drawing inspiration from the rich cultural traditions of the Mountain Province where I came from. I got interested with art at the late age 19. I already had works that depicts Cordillera themes like images, landscapes, symbols, motifs, culture and tradition. My favorite medium making artworks are “Pyrography” and “Solar Drawings”. “Pyrography” is a kind of medium that is using an electrical burning pen to draw patterns and designs, and “Solar Drawing” is a technique that involves burning of a desired sketch using the rays of the sun passing through a magnifying glass. Both are done on various materials that can be burned like wooden panels or thick papers (Hand made paper). In most of my artworks, I am trying to preserve the vanishing tradition, the changing rites and rituals and the developing way of life of the “Igorot people”. Through my art, I also hope to encourage my fellow “Igorots” especially the youth to be proud of our ethnic beginnings and not to be ashamed of our tribal culture.
