Kevin + forward

My Friend Kevin Leo O'Rourke passed away unexpectedly on March 13, 2010 while on business in New Delhi, India. Kevin was a devoted son, beloved friend, brother, caregiver and philanthropist. Kevin had dedicated in serving those in need and leading a purposeful life. Through the non profit (magnus-west) he established in Belize, he sponsored a school and helped the community with sustainable economic development projects. Kevin figured a way to handle thousands of used desks, chairs, and old books from community colleges (that were going to be dumped) and bring them down to Belize to replace the old battered desks the children had originally. He also sent hundreds of these items for the kids and their schools for the Katrina victims. Besides myself, there were many-many volunteers who helped meet Kevin's goal-of-hope. Kevin had a way with his ideas. He and I have been friends since 1973. I know Kevin, and when he wanted to focus on something, well, it is like us with paint and canvas; we have to get it done NOW! I am crying now, since I just learned another close friend has passed just last Friday as He was playing basketball with his son from a heart attack. Thom's situation is different since I know it was of natural causes... still sad. But Kevin's was not caused by natural causes, no! there was foul play. The family and friends are incredibly devastated. There are so many questions and very little answers right now. There is some communication with the state department- limited as of now. I was asked to speak, and I did yesterday at the memorial service. I also did oil (which I haven?t done for decades). Originally I thought of painting a collage of his life, but after painting his face and shoulders, I then went with the sky and this is the results. It will be given to Kev's sister Amy. I love this family so much! Man, what a year! Again, not looking at sympathy, but prayers for the families and a thought for Kevin's & Thom's souls. God Bless you all!! rh
