Donnie's Sunny Spirit

This drawing was done to raise money for my brother at the Kryptonite Fight Benefit Auction. These two little tiger cubs in this drawing are named Sunny and Spirit, I think you can tell which is which. he, he, he!!! They were both raised by my brother Donnie and now are full grown and live in the Great Bend Zoo. Donnie enjoyed caring for these cubs and doing whatever it took to keep them healthy and happy. Donnie would play with them all the time and took them around to different events to show them off for the zoo and to educate the public about these beautiful creatures. As he raised them Donnie had a habit of making a certain sound whenever around them, This identified who he was to them and it always got a response from the cubs as they would yelp and go to him looking for a loving pat or scratch from Donnie. As they grew bigger he was unable to continue close contact with them because their affection towards Donnie would many times end up hurting him as they were playing around. They wanted to leap on him and playfully bite like they use to as little cubs but their bite although just playful hurt more and when they would playfully swipe their paws at Donnie it would sometimes knock him over even though it was only a playful gesture on their part. As they were put behind their cage you could tell they truly missed playing with Donnie and the only thing Donnie could do was visit them everyday and they would go running to Donnie as they would hear that sweet sound he would make. They would push their head up against the cage and make sounds back to him and he would give them a little loving pat and scratch on their head as they would rub up against the bars trying to get as close as they could to Donnie. They totally focused on him and followed him wherever he went around their cage. Years later Donnie moved away and wasn't able to see the tigers as often and one year he went to the zoo with us and he stood their looking at the tigers. The tigers laid on the ground and didn't even know he was there. I remember asking him if he thought they remembered him. Donnie said, I don't know and then Donnie made that all to familiar sound and both of them jumped up and came running over to the edge of their cage were Donnie stood and started rubbing up against the wall and making sounds to him. It was so amazing for me to see that and such a sweet yet sad thing because they remembered Donnie but their affection was still divided by a wall. Bengal tigers are very beautiful, striking creatures and as cubs they can weigh between 100 to 250 pounds and a fully grown tiger can weight between 450 to 600 pounds. Although in the wild they can weight as much as 800 pounds.
