This is Polly. My brother has a unique way with his "pets". Polly was the only hen that survived a coyote attack - out of 10 hens and a rooster! She made it for years by herself, providing eggs for my brother. Eluding other wild animals and/or attacks. I helped Polly once - live. A gigantic black snake had wrapped around her 3 times!!!! A sight I would never like to witness again - ew. We saved her from that incident. I picked her up and held her, feeling the soft feathers beneath my hands. She didn't move. My brother then brought home a stray "rot"ten dog, Daisy. She killed it. So disappointing. We became attached to a chicken - funny, I know, but Polly became a pet! This hen would sit on my brother's shoulders, it roosted on the front porch railing. Polly followed us whenever we were walking in the yard, to the garden, to the barn, and my brother's LAB never once bothered her!!!! For James.......the only pic I have of Polly.

Great shot - I lived on a farm in England when I was a child and always had a couple of pet chickens - bantams - and I was devastated when a fox got into the hen house and killed them

I hear you loud and clear, Marcy! I used to raise chickens, and always had at least several pets. A Silver Spangled Hamburg rooster was one of my tamest. A mink took him, as "Sparky" rested in a tree outside the pen. He was a free range chicken, but the smart old mink found that out early on.
