This was a commission for an image of The Sacred Heart of Christ, which is a traditional image representing Christ Jesus and his sacrifice. Typically, there are thorns wrapped around the heart(symbolizing His crown of thorns he wore), a cut in the side(symbolizing the wound received at the hands of the soldiers who tortured him), a cross and flames,(symbolizing the burning passion of his love and his crucifixion and sometimes rays of light all around.
