Takin' Off

I am not sure of the species name for these little birds. They tend to pester the king fishers, and are nearly as fast as the king fishers.

Killdeer...named from the call they make. Also, they have a cool behavior where they feign being injured to draw predators away from a nesting area or young nearby.

Artist Reply: Thanks! I saw the defensive behavior that day, and it was remarkable! Thanks for your kind words.

Great action shot!

Artist Reply: Thanks Warren, You should of saw me standing on Bogies leash (a huge basset) there at the waters edge weaving like a drunkard back and forth switching between the view finder and screen, pushing the shutter button like a game show contestant that had missed his turn, then kinda cursing upon the review or a bad shot, I didn't look too professional then!
