I had never heard of a Bittern before and was surprised when I came upon this rather strange looking animal. At first I thought it might be a green heron from my first vantage point,but pretty quickly figured out it couldn't be one,although I have heard that there are a few in my area. What struck me most about this bird was the colour of it's legs and feet. On that particular day I had decided that I would put on some waterproof footwear and try to go into an area that I had never ventured out into before because of the wet marsh-like conditions there. The Bittern was very leery of me at first and kept disappearing into bog-like habitat and tall reads. It took me about fifteen minutes of slowly inching my way up towards it before I could finally get close enough,but once I got there I was able to get off well over a dozen good shots.
