Barrel Jumping Palmer Park ca. 1956 Day 3

I am blocking in the background foliage and beginning to place the trees in the background and balancing them to those in the foreground. I will then add the trees in the mid-ground area. I have also deepened he details on the Lighthouse and the Palmer cabin. I will continue defining details as I go both for balance and as a change of pace to paint different elements of the image.

A cold winter sky is moving in... And it is a great "demo" for you to show us your work step by step. Thank you!

This series is just as captivating as can be, Stanton! We are getting a blow by blow view of your painting strategies. When I paint in W/C I sometimes have to reverse my choices and do a little repair..... will you show us that as well? Probably you do not make irreversible choices! :-)

Artist Reply: I have a problem developing with the trees and the houses. My colors except for a few touches of red, Naples yellow, and thalo green are lamp black, thioindigoid violet, and Prussian blue. My problem is, how do keep things limited to my black, blue, and violet pallet and keep my houses defined from the trees? The opening I see to accomplish that is to leave the paper untouched on the houses and place tree trunks around and in front of the houses until the very end of the painting, I will likely then come back and put a very light wash of Prussian blue over the white areas. I had to lift some color from the right hand side of the light house island. I will use that light a wash of lighter for the background washes.
