Quidquid luce fuit, tenebris agit

"Quidquid Luce Fuit, Tenebris Agit" 19" x 25" Charcoal on toned paper Quidquid luce fuit, tenebris agit : What occurred in the light, goes on in the dark. This is a portrait of one of my more influential drawing/art instructors from AACC. The light band expands outward from the third eye chakra as well as the pineal gland area. There are three furrows to denote her number and as well the spiritual influence that three has on the world. The center of the left eye falls directly at where the vertical and horizontal golden sections bisect. This also signifies the occult center of the paper size. I enjoyed this photograph I took recently at an art exhibit for ryan, and when I look back on it, it makes me think of her drawing instruction. She really made me ignore what I see in the physical world and really delve into creativity as it pertains directly to me. Hence the closed eyes in my drawing, and the emanating light coming from the creative chakra. I chose the title for this piece from a quote of Friedrich Nietzsche's book "Beyond good and Evil." The title reflects how I see this piece in that what you know about yourself will truly illuminate the world around you, instead of its opposite.

Fabulous portrait. Really realistic, i love the skin.

Artist Reply: thank you, it took quite a bit of reserve to capture this subtlety. its still a concept i struggle with.
