ChiosVillage Woman with Wild Tomatoes

This woman, in Chios, was explaining how these wild tomatoes on her balcony are grown all year without water, harvested and strung up and hung on the village balconies to be used throughout the year. Her beautiful smile and face reflected her contentment with village life in Chios and of another time. Photo taken in August, 2008 with a simple Canon PowerShot A75

I love the subject of this......I never saw tomatoes like this....amazing ! The photo itself ? Hope you don't mind me saying that I would have cropped in much closer on the subject and cloned out that cable which takes my eye away from those gorgeous red tomatoes. You're right, her expression is so happy, it makes me smile too !

Artist Reply: Dear Susan, Thank you so much for your comment about my photo of the woman and her tomatos. I agree with you about the cropping of the photo, yet, I thought that the line created by the electrical wire, made not only a triangular pattern for the composition, but also made an interesting juxtaposition of the 'new' with the 'old.' Just a thought. Cropping the photo would also be good and would allow the viewer to focus on the wonderful face of that beautiful woman. I loved her face. She must have been very beautiful as a younger woman.
