This is a nice picture, Cody. I like the face and especially the eyes. You made a nice attempt on the wings, I have to draw them a lot for one of my characters and it can be a pain in the backside! You have got the principle right - all you need is more detail. I know it's really boring and time consuming but draw those feathers! The more you do it the easier it becomes. I think that right now your work could benefit from having a black outline. Doesn't have to be really thick, or really thin but untill you are confident with shadows and light upon objects then lineart on your picture will help frame it. Don't be afraid to put more colour on that picture too. If you used Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro, just add another layer and put all your shading on that. It will make lots of difference to your work! The background could be more difinitive as well. I can tell that the feel of the picture is supposed to be rather mystical but if you put clouds back there and a moon you will help create the atmoshphere. I don't know if that sounds a bit much to you but just go out and try it :D
