My perception of bongo drums as a part of this coral tree is another good example of iconic vision meaning seeing an icon or concrete image before perceiving the whole gestalt;in this case I perceived two bongo drums and a small arm and hand on the right playing the instrument in the middle of a busy Los Angeles street lined with coral trees. Anpther example of an iconic image is my photo of a giant walking through the woods that I perceived before I saw the tree that gave him form. Many of my anthropomorphic images exemplify this special perceptual sense. People have this type of vision or have the potential to develop it if they pay attention to seeing images that would be apparent if the individual was interested in focusing on this type of perceptual vision. If Charlie or a friend did not know me so well, it would be startling when I ask them to stop the car so I can take a picture of a woman playing bongo drums in the middle of a crowded street. If the images were not recogniziable after I shot the picture, I would be in serious need of a reality check. Seeing the unusual makes photography more interesting to me as well as projecting into ambiguous imagery what I see given my training to interpret the Rorschach, a standard projective test administered by Psychologists often referred to as the inkblot test.
