This is a winning design for a Mississippi Duck Stamp competition. I became the first African American to have designed the stamp. I gave art lessons to a friend of mine who was a high school art teacher, named Mr. Garner. He had been placing below 50th place in the contest. After some intense lessons and critiques, he became the second African American to win the prestigious competition. The limited edition of 500 signed and numbered print sales, along with the color remarques and pencil remarques, brought about $25,000. I only mention the prize money to give emerging AW artists an idea of the possibilities that their skills could bring, with a little luck (no sucha thing!) and a lot of preparation.
