The Late Edward de Warrenne Waller

This is a posthumous portrait of my late cousin Ed, who was tragically killed in the Bali Bomb on 12th October 2002. Ed was 26 years old. He was in Bali with friends from the Hong Kong Rugby Club, participating in a rugby tournament. Ed was outgoing and generous of spirit. It was said of him that "his smile could bring us roses in December". He loved and played many sports. He was a keen sailor and this portrait captures a typical pose set against the background of familiar islands in Lough Derg, on the Shannon, in Co. Tipperary, Ireland, where he grew up and which was his spiritual home.

Artist Reply: Thank you so much Nelly. Yes - he was a very special young man indeed and we all miss him. This painting helped us all and belongs with Ed's father.
